Retaining Walls & Boulder Walls in Rosemount, Lakeville and Eagan

Walls that hold ground and turn a slope into yard, built with the base, drainage and backfill that keep them straight through Minnesota winters.

Our home ground

Evergreen Landscapes builds retaining walls and boulder walls for homes in Rosemount, Lakeville and Eagan. We’re based in Rosemount, so this is our home ground — the soil, the frost depth and the way water moves across these yards are things we deal with every season.

A wall is usually doing one of two jobs: holding ground that wants to move, or turning a slope you can’t use into flat yard you can. Sometimes both. Either way what matters is what goes in behind the wall — the base, the drainage, the backfill — because that is what decides whether it still looks right in ten winters.

Why walls fail in Minnesota

Frost and water. Ground freezes and heaves, water collects behind a wall with nowhere to go, and a wall that was never drained properly starts to lean. That is why we spend time on base depth, on drain rock and drain tile behind the face, and on where the water is going to end up once the wall is in the way. A wall built well is a structure. A wall built quickly is a pile of stone that hasn’t moved yet.

Walls as part of the yard

Most of our walls are built alongside something else — a patio at the base of the grade, steps up to a firepit, planting beds terraced into the slope, lighting so the stonework reads at night. If a wall is the first thing you’re thinking about, it’s worth talking through the rest of the space at the same time, even if the rest comes later.

We work across the south metro from Rosemount and are expanding into the east metro, including Woodbury, Afton, Cottage Grove and Hastings. Our gallery has photos of completed stonework and hardscape projects.

Request a consultation

Every wall gets an at-home consultation first — we need to see the grade, the soil and where the water goes before we can tell you what the right wall is.

Retaining walls: common questions

What kinds of retaining walls do you build?

Boulder walls in fieldstone and segmental block walls. Which suits a yard depends on the height it has to hold, the soil behind it and how it needs to look next to the house.

Do you serve Rosemount, Lakeville and Eagan?

Yes. All three are in our south metro service area, along with Apple Valley, Inver Grove Heights, Farmington and Hastings.

Does a retaining wall need drainage?

Most do. Water trapped behind a wall is what pushes it over, so drainage rock and drain tile usually go in as the wall is built.

Can you repair a wall that is already leaning?

Often. We look at why it moved first, because a wall rebuilt without fixing the base or the drainage will move again.
